Dongshan Mountain

The Dongshan Mountain is located near the sea, 60 km away from Wanning City. It is the famous natural park as well as a popular resort for Buddhism Worshippers.

The picturesque scenery is featured by the coral reef, strange stone and lush greenery. Many stone are carved with ancient people’s calligraphy in red ink.

There are more than 100 scenic spots such as "Sea Eye", "Immortal Guy" and "Ocean Pavilion" etc. Among them, the most famous is the "Sea Eye". It has a special phenomenon named "Water Flowing Vessel". According to the legend, the Jade Emperor led the immortal fountain here and split a stone into half by god axe to form a vessel to contain water for the monks of nearby temples. So there is a saying that one has not been to the Dongshan Mountain till he drinks the clear fountain water in this stone vessel.

In Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasty, some monks built temples on the mountain intermittently such as the famous Chaoyin Temple and the Pure-land Temple. Many locals often come to the mountain to burn incense and worship Buddha piously and arduously during fixed or unfixed religion activities.

During the big occasion, the masters from mainland Pure-land School will attend it. Some monks from Japan and Korea believing in the Pure-land School will also come here to take part in the activity.
